Rosemary

rosemary shawl

At last, it is finished! To recap: this is the Rosemary Shawl, designed by Gladys Amedro. The yarn was spun on a spindle from 8 oz of Enchanted Knoll Farm batts in Cleopatra (approximately 1800 yards of laceweight). I was worried that I might run out of yarn, but hooray! I had a bit left over.

The sparkly yarn is hard to capture, but I like the way the color variations in the batts play out in the square shawl. Subtle stripes please me.

OMG that's stunning!

Posted by: Jody van Dooijewaard at August 18, 2009 11:05 AM

Wow. Again. Just wow. It's stunningly beautiful. What's amazing, aside from your impeccable knitting and spinning, is that the sparkles and color variations don't detract from the pattern but instead enhance it.

Posted by: LaurieM at August 18, 2009 11:52 AM

OMG your knitting is truly a work of art.

As usual, you've completed a masterpiece! Your work is always so inspiring; it makes me want to run out and cast on yet another lace shawl. Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Beautiful!!

Posted by: monica at August 18, 2009 03:01 PM

That is stunning. And spun on a spindle? You are a far more patient spinner than I. Congratulations on an amazing project.

Posted by: Jessica at August 18, 2009 04:21 PM

How do you do this? Spin endless amounts of very fine yarn and knit really complicated beautiful shawls? Your days must have more than 24 hours. :)

Posted by: projektleiterin at August 18, 2009 04:43 PM

OMG! She's beautiful! :)

Posted by: miyamojo at August 18, 2009 04:44 PM

Oh my, that just takes my breath away! I've become happy with my drop spindles, and perhaps will have to set something like this as a long term goal now!

Posted by: Kristin at August 18, 2009 05:38 PM

Lovely, lovely, lovely. :)

Posted by: Janice in GA at August 18, 2009 06:36 PM

Stunning and you spun the yarn yourself! I've just discovered your blog and am well...stunned....at your accomplishments.

Posted by: glenda at August 18, 2009 06:50 PM

What can we do with you and all those gorgeous shawls? That one is fab, and the little bit of sparkle makes me happy. It's a happy shawl! Great job!

Posted by: Sil at August 18, 2009 06:58 PM

Beautiful yarn color. Your knitting is wonderful.

Posted by: Chery at August 18, 2009 07:14 PM

Beautiful! Love the color.

Posted by: Walden at August 18, 2009 11:22 PM

Alice dear, you amaze me. You have such patience and concentration - I can't even imagine the time it must take to complete one of these projects and have it be so perfect, and so beautiful. If a project takes me longer than one day, then I lose patience and I speed things up. and then I end up with asymmetrical sleeves and wonky threads popping up all over the place. :) Send a little of that patience my, way will ya? Remind me that things don't have to be completed the minute they are started! I would love to see one of your shawls in person. you and jon ever want to come take a trip to Germany and visit??? :)

Posted by: amber at August 19, 2009 12:02 AM

Oh me, oh my! Alice, it's absolutely stunning - congratulations on yet another inspiring piece of art.

Posted by: Claudia at August 19, 2009 12:06 AM

Oh ALice it's beautiful and one of my favourite colours... I think Gladys Amedero would have been stunned if she had seen this :o)

Posted by: littleberry at August 19, 2009 02:59 AM

That is outstanding! I know how long it takes to spindle-spin that quantity of yarn. It is superb! It also makes me want to dig out my spindle and some merino top.

Bravo! Your knitting and your blog always inspire!!!

Alice, that is just gorgeous. I've ordered that pattern, but doubt that anyone could knit it better than you have! Your handspun is lovely, too.

Your shawl is gorgeous! I love the color and what a wonderful job you did! Congratulations!

Posted by: Purpleworms at August 19, 2009 07:57 PM

That is unbelievably stunning. The combination of the fiber, spinning and knitting- I'm sure Gladys Amedro never imagined it could look like that.

Posted by: Lorraine at August 20, 2009 09:40 AM

lovely! did you teach yourself to spindle spin? your spinning is as inspiring as your knitting. i keep telling myself i have no time to take on what may well be another fibery addiction, but how can i not want to learn to do what you do?

Posted by: dana at August 20, 2009 02:38 PM

It's stunning. Absolutely stunning! Bravo!

Posted by: Ivete at August 20, 2009 05:06 PM

MAGNIFICENT! I am completely blown away by the yarn, the spinning, the knitting, the everything.

Posted by: Ruth Carapella at August 20, 2009 09:33 PM

Simply gorgeous. The shawl is just beautiful. I love the color and you are clearly a highly skilled spinner and knitter. Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures! Until I saw this post, I never really considered spinning the yarn for a shawl. I don't know why. Now I may have to start a lace-weight spinning project this winter.

Posted by: Ruby at August 20, 2009 11:50 PM

Gorgeous! Beautifiul spinning and beautiful knitting. I really love the colour. Although I was slightly spooked by the invisible arm on your mannequin! :)

Posted by: Soo at August 21, 2009 08:24 AM

Stunning! Once again, a breathtaking piece of craftsmanship. You continue to amaze me.

Posted by: Kim at August 22, 2009 01:06 PM

That is really stunning! Your knitting is superb and the spinning sublime :-) I have some fiber from Enchanged Knolls and love it too though my results are not nearly as outstanding as yours. Bravo!

Posted by: Jane at August 22, 2009 06:34 PM

Well, ALL adjectives are insufficient. There is no way for me to convey how truly lovely this is. What a beauty!

Posted by: sonja poor at August 22, 2009 08:35 PM

OMG, absolutely gorgeous... Spinning that much yarn on a drop spindle? WOW... and the yarn IS gorgeous... you do inspire me... (you already did "push" me into spinning, but wow... When I grew up I wanna be you..LOL

Posted by: peony67 at August 24, 2009 11:39 AM

I freely confess that I adore your every spinning/knitting whimsy but, whoa! This one? This one just makes me purrrr uncontrollably and reach out to pet it over and over again (even though the fingers are just 'thunking' up against the screen). So beautiful!

Posted by: farm-witch at August 25, 2009 09:35 AM

Absolutely beautiful, stunning, amazing, - truly a piece to be shown in all of the spinning world and more! I am curious, what spindle did you use? Every few weeks I check your blog and am so in awe of your spinning and what you create - it truly keeps me inspired to keep spinning!

Posted by: Terry at August 26, 2009 08:28 PM

OMG! Congratulations!

Posted by: Laritza at August 27, 2009 12:01 AM

oooh, i just love the way the glittery strands highlight the stitches in this piece! i am not normally a fan of glitter, but i have to say it reads like strong silk or fine beads; it's wonderful!

Posted by: anne at August 27, 2009 12:17 AM

Subtle stripes please me, too :) Wow-wow-wow! That is gorgeous, and so much richer than it would have been in a solid yarn... seriously yummy! On a side note... how/where did you block it? It's huge!

Posted by: Octopus Knits at August 27, 2009 08:01 PM

oh my!!!!

Posted by: stickresan at August 30, 2009 09:08 PM

Posted by: MoniqueB at September 4, 2009 02:45 AM

Wow, I know some people have already said wow, but that's the only word that springs to mind and to have spun the yarn on a spindle. double wow. I'm so impressed.
