Icarus

And so I finally get around to posting photos of my completed Icarus shawl.

To recap, the yarn for this project was spun on my Bosworth midi spindle from the incredibly gorgeous Lady Starlight batts from Enchanted Knoll Farm. Four ounces of this fiber yielded about 1,000 yards of two-ply laceweight, so I still have a bit left over. Perhaps more Orchid Lace Mitts are in order?

This is one of my favorite projects to date. Fun to spin, fun to knit, and the finished shawl turned out just as I had hoped. I've also found that I really like spinning laceweight on my spindles (and have recently acquired a few more for that very purpose). Soon I will have to spin some crazy amount for a nice square Shetland shawl of some sort.... :)

Beautifully spun and knit!

It is beautiful! I love the fact that it is spindle spun. I've been wanting to spindle spin laceweight. It is a nice challenge to make something so fine. Congrats on a lovely piece!

Such a lovely Icarus! The color is wonderful.

That came out great! I attempted to knit Icarus a while back but it didn't work out on the count of some really ugly lace yarn I used that I thought was a pale green but was really grey. (Yuck) Anyway, very nice job! I know Princess is still waiting in the wings and I'm dying to see her!

Absolutely stunning!

Help out a failing memory: is this your first handspun project? Or your first big handspun project.
Either way, it's lovely. It would be lovely even if it WASN'T handspun. :)

Wow, the blue is gorgeous and you even spun the yarn on your spindle?! So much yarn with a spindle! Until now I have only spun enough for a swatch, which took *ages* and therefore fueled my decision to buy a spinning wheel (which hopefully will arrive soon). I probably don't deserve it since I haven't spun that much yarn on my spindle yet to be allowed to complain. :D

Drop Dead Gorgeous. Now this is what I call lace. Just beautiful as all your work is.

Gorgeous colour and beautifully knit as always....but to discover that you've spun the yarn yourself as well is.... WOW!

as always stunning both your spinning and knitting ... I like Icarus but don't know if I could cope with the plain bit in the middle....

That's totally amazing- I love it!

Just beautiful!
And doesn't it make you feel even more attached to such a lovely thing to know that you spindle-spun the yarn, too? I knitted a Swallowtail with yarn I spindled, and it's my favorite shawl.
Love your Icarus! Now I want one...

Wow!! 1000 yards on a spindle. I've done as much as 800 yards, took me forever. I love your shawl.

Beautiful! The stitch pattern really shows off the subtle changes of color in the yarn.

Your spinning and knitting are amazing! What a wonderful way to use your beautiful handspun lace weight yarn :-)

Your handspun is GORGEOUS!!! I want to try to spin laceweight, but I know nothing about setting up the wheel in the proper ratios. Any advice?

I have an extremely low attention span when it comes to spindle spinning, so I'm in awe of the fact that you spun all of that on a *spindle*! Gorgeous work!

That is absolutely gorgeous! I'm an avid reader of your blog but this is the first time I've commented. I've nominated you for the "I love your blog" award. Please see my blog to pick up your ribbon. Your lace knitting is so inspirational!

Stunning work! I'm especially in awe of your spindle-spinning skills-- such fine lace weight! It must have taken much patience and determination. Do you find it easier to spin lace weight on a spindle or a wheel?

I've given you the 'I Love Your Blog' award. See my blog for the onerous obligations this puts you under :)

So lovely!

Amazing! The colour is so subtle with those lighter specs.
I don't quite know what a spindle is, but I imagne that's a handheld spinning 'device'..? Really like the colour, and the shawl has a good size too.
Wear it proud!

Beautiful shawl. Love the coloursof the yarn too.
