Hurting my brain

laurelleaf.jpg

So knitting the practice swatch for the laurel leaf insertion was a bit...fraught. I'm not sure how many times I knit it with unsatisfactory results before realizing that the problem was not my tired brain, but rather an error in the chart. For those of you planning to knit the insertion as charted in the 2007 version of the pattern, be warned that there are two extra rows in the chart--I could only make the laurel leaf tips line up properly by skipping from row 7 directly to row 10.

Usually I'm one for charging right ahead in my knitting, but I'm glad I took the sensible swatching route before attempting this seemingly harmless chart over 600+ stitches.... In the end, though, I am very happy with how elegantly this little insertion has turned out.

After the laurel leaf incident, I was a bit cross with the Princess for a couple of days. But now I am well into the center portion and all is forgiven, and sweetness and light have returned. Although I am back to resenting work and classes for getting in the way of my knitting.

OUCH! I hate when that happens, and it's happened twice on the International shawl. For the price of the Princess pattern, and the fact that this is the second edition, that's unforgivable. But it looks fabulous! May your brain recover quickly!

Ooh, I think I'd go postal if I finally knit lace and there was an error in the chart. You are a patient girl.

Very glad that you are ahead figuring it all out. You also said there is a mistake in row 181? would you please double check. I am on row 104 and loving it so far. But I have other things OTN, a couple of rows of Princess a day is all I am getting in.

Oh how frustrating! Beautiful results though.

All those plowing along in your wake are cheering that you found this little boo-boo! :)

I hate it when that happens. That happened to me couple of times... Really frustrating! I'm glad you got it all straighten out!

Have you submitted your corrections to Sharon so that she can put it on her web site under "Corrections"? Be helpful to those of us who still have Princess on our "some day" list. :)

You may have to switch to knitting for a living someday, in order to have all the time you need for knitting, of course, then it probably wouldn't be as much fun

There was a discussion of this issues a long while ago in the HK yahoo group. If you look at messages #5783 and #5784. Jean asked about it and CKehr said that shifting the togs would correct the problem. Jean even put pictures in the photo section. Not that any of this helps you after the fact. I am awed by the progress so far. It is simply beautiful.

Yes, I knit the swatch, yet still managed to miss the error until I'd knit the entire *#@#! insert in the shawl itself. I ripped it out, and corrected it by shifting the top of the lower leaves over by half a leaf and lengthening the top leaves (which, as charted, were shorter than the bottom leaves). Good on you, miss alice, for catching the error in swatch. -Jean K.

Thank goodness you did that swatch. I would have been frantic thinking I had lost my mind. The insert looks really pretty the way you have done it though I'm not sure I want to put that in on my Princess or not. I'll figure it out when I get there (eons after you are done). Glad you are back in love with knitting her :-)

That hurts my brain just to look at it! It is lovely indeed. I've nominated you for an award, by the way. Check out my blog for details!
