Six down...

princess%20edging%20start.jpg

The Princess shawl pattern arrived on Saturday. I managed to hold out a couple of hours before the urge to cast on became overwhelming. :)

The yarn I'll be using (I think) is a light blue gossamer wool/silk blend acquired on eBay. I have a completely ridiculous amount of it--about 2.25 pounds at 16,000 yards per pound. The label inside the cone indicates that it is a Lane Borgosesia yarn, dated 1992. Not quite vintage.

I put that qualification in the preceding paragraph only because I haven't yet received the Jamieson & Smith Shetland Supreme samples I ordered. It may be fabulous enough to change my whole outlook on the shawl... Or not. In the meantime, I've completed six edging points in the wool/silk on 1.75 mm (00) needles. I might have gotten further, but I kept getting distracted by the imaginative and acrobatic slaughter of 300. On-screen testosterone overload and lace knitting mix about as well as you'd think they would...

Lace knitting and abs of steel do not mix. It is looking lovely so far. I love the color. And I gasped when I saw the cone. That is wonderful! Can't wait to see more of the shawl.

Absolutely lovely yarn IF it is fairly easy to knit with. I do love the color. 294 is not bad :D

Oh sqweeee...... So excited to see this Miss Alice. That colour is to die for, it will be stunning, I hope you continue in this and save the supreme for another fab project. I used to listen to TV, and now I seem to watch a lot more when knitting, obviously the knitting suffers for it, but I think if I had been watching 300 I would have put the knitting down. How was the movie anywho? One to rent or no? K

I don't have a tv, so I am at loss about 300. 300 what? Of course, your taste is impeccable, the color irreproachable, and the knitting, exquisite. I have to find some new adjectives for your lace, soon.

I'm not sure if I should be jealous that you have your pattern already or excited because this means that mine migh be waiting for me in the mailbox when I get home. =)

Sheesh, Lady!!! Very Expert? How many brain cells are you trying to tie in knots? Actually, it's going to be fabulous. I'll be waiting for progress reports.

Wow! That is a LOT of yarn! I'm really impressed that you managed to knit that much through 300. I don't think I knit a stitch throughout that whole movie. Too much eye candy. ;-)

Lovely colour! I'm still trying to decide what yarn I'll use.

The ice blue color is beautiful, and I love the way both your pinned and unpinned samples look. You really couldn't do better than to use this yarn. My own Princess shawl pattern arrived today--it's amazing how fast packages shipped by air arrive from Europe. I may never get around to knitting the shawl, but it's wonderful just to have the pattern.

Such a beauty! The color is sublime and your knitting is fabulous as usual. I will feast my eyes on your work as I wait for my own yarn to arrive. Square or Triangle?

ohhh love the colour.... and you're the first I've seen knitting the Princess pattern.... your knitting looks great... I am getting the pattern for Christmas but have the yarn at the ready....

We saw 300 at the theater. I actually wanted to see it on a big screen, for maximum visual impact. :) I liked the stylized, comic-book look of the film a LOT. Though by the end, I was pretty disappointed when I realized that the abs HAD to have been added back in digitally. Drat. The lace, of course, is lovely. As usual. :)

Oooh you started!!

Posted by: monica at November 6, 2007 12:40 PM

I've managed to hold off casting on, because I'm working on 2 shawls already. Not really. I am working on 2 shawls, but I haven't cast on only because I don't have any appropriate yarn. I'm hoping maybe Richard will put some more cobweb cashmere/silk on the Colourmart site, so I can use that. Yours is looking lovely so far. But then, your lace always does!

My pattern has arrived too but until I finish the two projects I have otn I will not even take the pattern out of the plastic. I have also received the yarn samples I ordered with the pattern. Am I mad in thinking to knit the princess in black?

Posted by: romy at November 8, 2007 03:20 AM

Oh my. This is going to be your magnum opus, isn't it? Seriously, I cannot think of a more complex, elaborate, ginormous knitterly undertaking. (Okay, maybe if you spun the gossamer thread yourself...) I'll watch you knit this with great interest. :-)

Not only am I scared of knitting lace, I'm scared of watching 300. You are my hero.

Posted by: Sil at November 14, 2007 03:18 PM

everytime i watch you start one of these projects i am in awe! however you seem to sail through them so quickly. i remain convinced that you have a photographic memory!

That yarn is to die for! One of my alltime favourite colours. It looks like the lace will float in the air. Big intake of breath when I saw the photo. Look forward to following the progress of this shawl.
