Regroup

tomten%2010.7.jpg

Half a sleeve to knit and an assload of ends to weave before the tomten is finished. Must get this in the mail before the child outgrows it...

Meanwhile, it's been one of those reassessment-type weeks with the knitting. The Estonian lace was going well--until I realized that there is an asymmetry in the chart I plotted out that I just can't live with, or even fix without ripping back. Which is what I'm planning to do. Erg.

Also, after much swatching and plotting for my prospective cabley project (Meg Swansen's Saddle Shoulder Aran Cardigan, which was rendered so beautifully by brooklyntweed earlier this year), I've managed to convince myself that I don't actually have enough yarn. (Must remedy this situation at Rhinebeck.)

So, while I probably should have been paying attention in class last night, I started reconfiguring the plan from cardigan to vest, for which there is plenty of yarn.

Fear not, though, lace lovers--I've also cast on for another gossamer Shetland lace project (in Heirloom Knitting CashSilk). But more on that next week, when I have more than a paltry 1/2 inch of knitting to show.

What did you cast on? I am way too curious! Rest looks good. Too bad about the Estonian lace, live and learn.....or should it be knit and learn? If it helps I like vests more than I do sweaters sometimes!

As always, missalice, your knitting delights the eye. I am sorry about the Estonian lace, because the sample was lovely. ps: I finished the border of the Black Widow two minutes ago. I only have to graft the edges and then pass out.

Dear missalicefaye, It was fate. Fate took a big bite out of your knitting and said "Take thee to Rhinebeck!" So sorry you have to frog the Estonian lace. It was lovely, quite quite lovely. The cable sweater project looks terrific. I used to have a thing for cable knitting. Still, I get more of a thrill hearing you will be casting on another gossamer shawl. You deserve yarn, lots and lots of it. Have fun at Rhinebeck and take lots of pictures!

love the baby totem jacket!!!! the cable swatch is lovely to and I love the colour.... and as ever looking forward to the lace project sorry about ripping back the Estonian lace but if you're unhappy with it, it'll just keep annoying you....

Great Tomten jacket - love your colour choice. The red and brown look so incredibly rich together. Too bad about the shawl - sometimes the lace bug bites you where it shouldn't. Nasty, nasty bug. Bad lace, no block-y.

I love the red detail on that little totem sweater. Nice choice. Now hurry and weave in, those kiddos grow fast.

Your Cobweb Wrap is stunningly beautiful. That is such a wonderful vibrant shade of blue. I also like the colour combination on your tomten sweater. I just like everything you make! Too bad about your Estonian shawl. I know how it feels when you have to rip back, especially when things are humming along. At least, when it’s done, you’ll have the pleasure of knowing it is just as you planned.

i just love that child's jacket, the brown with red trim is SOoo gnomish! right out of grimm's. and i've always liked the look of that folded stitch pattern in your swatch. never used it, but it's on one of my lists for "someday"

I have to say that I was very surprised to see a non-lace item - but it is a gorgeous knit! Lucky child! I'm loving the swatch too, a favorite color w. favorite stitch style. Yum, perfect for the coming season. Hope the re-knit comes out well, I'm sure it will.
