Pencils ready

As I think I'm nearing a good length for the stole's center, I decided this would be a good time to give some thought to the borders. I made a little chart using the "Snail Shell with Cable Border" design (p. 157) in Heirloom Knitting as a starting point. (The colors are way off in this photo--see last week's entry for a more accurate rendering.)
I'm very much in love with the CashSilk. So soft. I would definitely order some for the Princess if I weren't so overdrawn on the yarn budget...
Do you like my fancy yarn holder/mason jar? :) I got the idea from one of the Jamieson & Smith pattern leaflets. It works very nicely for my sitting-on-the-couch knitting time and prevents the yarn from rolling around in the cat and dog hair on the floor. Cashmere and silk deserve better treatment than that, I think.
I have, of course, ordered my copy of the Princess. I actually saw it available on the site minutes before I received the notification email. Yes, I've been a little obsessed about this. Yes, I remain a little obsessed about this...

That is beautiful! I mean the color and the charts. The lace is yet to be seen. I also ordered Princess and I am waiting for Shetland Supreme x 1 kg cone to show up. I think obsession is an under statement!

The color is gorgeous on my screen--a rich violet. And I am sure the final product will be magnificent. A bit difficult to see it now :)

I am totally stealing your mason jar idea.
I have to save up for Princess. But I'll get there eventually.

I love that color! I desperately want the Princess pattern, but I'm having a hard time justifying the price to myself. Of course I'm worth it right?

Gorgeous! But I think I may even be in more love with your mason jar usage-- very, very cool.

Alice, the Princess is going to take you so long to knit that you can justify ANY expense for the yarn. It would be a real and dreadful shame to settle for second best on this one.
Courage!

Been putting my yarn in ziplock bags and old plastic containers. But I think for the nicer yarns, I'm going to do as you do and put them in mason jars. They do deserve it :)

The Mason jar is a great idea! I love the Princess shawl too but am on a budget as well...maybe someday!

Dear missalicefaye,
Your Mason Jar is a wonderful idea and charming in so many ways! The lace speaks for itself and the color makes me want to weep with joy every time I see it. I think the border you are designing will be stunning and I love it when you design your own :-) I received my copy of the Princess Shawl pattern today and realize I do not have enough of any one yarn to make it from my stash. I had not intended to buy more yarn. God knows I have enough. But for this shawl, I will make an exception. Perhaps you could re-consider the cost as well, or leave hints for someone close to you about buying you an exceptionally early Xmas present? Would love to see you knitting it.

the chart looks interesting... and I love the jar idea, I use a white paper caarrier with string handles for my knitting to sit in....
I hve yet to order my Princess pattern....

Wow, that Princess shawl is huge? You may need a week more than usual to finish up, even at your crazy knitting speed! It's very pretty, what color are you leaning toward on that one?

Mason jars are great for everything - canning, drinking out of, holding knitting needles (or pens/pencils), mixing dye... why not as a yarn holder! Thanks for the idea! That will keep the dogs out of it.
