Cobweb Wrap
Cobweb wrap by Gladys Amedro, aka Gemma Ord. Knit with Heirloom Knitting's Merino Lace on 2.75mm needles. Pattern purchased directly from Jamieson and Smith.
This was a pretty happy, uneventful knitting project--lovely yarn, flawless pattern, no major mishaps. Knitting the top border at the end was boring as hell, but it only lasted a few days.
So, speaking of J&S, has anyone tried their new Shetland Supreme yarn yet? It looks like Heirloom Knitting is stocking it now. My November HK order list is getting longer and longer....

Blue skies

The cobweb wrap has moved very quickly--I just started picking up stitches for the top border last night.

The back panel.

Detail of leaf diamond.
As Laritza noted, this shawl is Faroese-esque (but without any shoulder shaping). I'm really liking this construction and am tossing around a few ideas for creating a shawl in Estonian lace motifs from Ptsilised Koekirjad, based on Myrna Stahman's top-down construction method. We'll see....

Amedro revisited

First of all, thank you for your kind comments on my Spring Shawl. If I seemed rude in not responding directly, I can only offer the excuse that either the blog or my email was misbehaving last week and not forwarding me the comments. Theirs is not always a harmonious relationship, MUCH to my chagrin.
Anyway, above is my most recently started lace project. Eventually it will look something like this:

The Cobweb Wrap, designed by Gladys Amedro (under the name Gemma Ord) for Jamieson and Smith. A similar project appears in her book Shetland Lace. I first saw this wrap on the blog of the inimitable Jean Miles, who has knit three versions of it--you can read about them here.
I'm using Heirloom Knitting's Merino Lace, which I find soft and delightful. The lovely person I bought the yarn from thought otherwise, however, so I'd be interested in hearing the opinions of others who have used this yarn.
I've also put some quality time in on the Palatine. It never seems to get much bigger, though. Sigh.

Job and school are both going well. I'm only overwhelmed about 80% of the time....

Spring Shawl

The Spring Shawl, designed by Sharon Miller of Heirloom Knitting. Knit on 2mm needles with gossamer 55% merino/ 45% tencel blend acquired from the Skaska Designs booth at Rhinebeck in 2006. I used 60 grams, or approximately 1550 yards of this yarn, which is finer than the Shetland cobweb yarn called for in the pattern. The final dimensions of my version: 39" long and 64" wide, compared to the 48" length and 92" width of the original.

Initially, I thought the yarn was a bit scratchy to work with, but it grew on me eventually. It needs a gentle hand, though--it broke a couple of times while I was winding it into a ball. Also, some of the stitches that I had reserved for picking up the edging got tangled up and snapped when I tried to remove the waste yarn (a thin, smooth cotton). Not a pretty sight, but the stitches in question were in a garter row section, lessening the intensity of my freakout.

Tomorrow I start my new job. And fall semester classes. Assuming I survive this week, I'll reveal details of my current project next time. Hint: it's lace. :)
