Beauty by mail

You have every right to feel jealous. I am the truly honored recipient of this beautiful laceweight yarn, handspun by Jane of Lacefreak. Sooooo lovely--I hope I can do it justice. Swatching commences tonight!

Thank you so much for all of your kind comments on the Wedding Ring Shawl! A few things I forgot to mention: 1) It does indeed fit through my wedding ring, but I haven't gotten around to securing photographic evidence--eventually! maybe! and 2) my finished shawl is significantly smaller than the dimensions given in the pattern--I assume this had something to do with my yarn choice, tension, etc. It ended up being about 60" square, which is more in line with the size I was hoping to achieve. Dumb luck.

And now that the Wedding Ring Shawl is finished, what's next on the agenda?

Sharon Miller's Spring Shawl. I couldn't hold out until November for another Shetland lace fix.

I'm using the Skaska Designs merino/tencel blend that I picked up at Rhinebeck last fall--so, yeah, another gossamer weight yarn on 2mm needles sort of project. My favorite! :)

By the way, I finished the christening shawl last week, too. Photos when I can find a bit of time between reading assignments!

As always, your knitting looks scrumptious. I shall have a second look at the Spring shawl, as your is so beautiful! Jane's lace yarn is also wonderful--what will do you with it? And how are you liking the merino/tencel? I hated it in sock yarn--zero elasticity and it was scratchy! I should think Skaska's is a lot nicer than that, though.

I love how you are so casual about finishing the Christening Shawl LOL. I also want to do the Spring Shawl but I can't justify buying/starting it until after I finish the WRS that I started. I'm still very slow since I got side-tracked with other projects but I am still slogging along. Though the yarn I sent is still only a decent laceweight, you won't be seeing anyone else with it unless I spun it for them too! Have fun and I think your Spring Shawl is looking so beautiful that I have to go stare at it some more!

I look forward to your progress on the Spring shawl... I have yet to knit any lace on needles less than 3mm but you are inspiring me to do so... The yarn from lacefreak is gorgeous

The yarn from Jane looks lovely - especially the color! What do you think about knitting lace on smaller needles than called for? I'm using size 6 for the new Lily of the Valley pattern in Lace Style and I don't really like it. I'm thinking of going down in size but I'm concerned about my finished measurements. Do you find much of a difference when you do that or do you usually just knit patterns that call for small needles?

Spring Shawl looks great! November is a long time from now, so I guess you're making it 'square', not just the triangle, right? No pressure! :) I didn't realized Lacefreak had her own label! m:)
