School's out!

Oh, my. What a week. But I can now say that I've officially survived my first semester in grad school--hooray! And my professors seemed terribly excited about my project on uses of social networking software in libraries, so that was a nice way to end the semester. That's the nice thing about school--you don't usually get gold stars like that in the working world. :)
(And, yes, I did have to sign up for Second Life. For research purposes.)
Of course, I managed to make time for knitting amidst the studying. Most of the progress on the Palatine (above) happened during lunch hour at work. With difficulty, I might add. My coworkers don't seem to share my conception of lunchtime as sacred leave-me-the-hell-alone time. Sigh. I really need a door.
In WRS news, I've completed 51 repeats of the edging pattern out of 140. It seems to be going pretty fast (but maybe that's just in comparison to the insanely long border rows). Perhaps I'm just super-excited to move on to the next big thing.

does this mean that you also have a my space page? for research purposes?... ;)

I like your Palatine. It has a bit of op-art.

There's some interesting movement going on in that Palatine!
What IS that next shawl pattern?

Your Next Big Thing link doesn't lead to anything! What is it! Please tell!. Palatine makes me dizzy...
Glad school is out for you, so we can all see the finished WRS sooner than later. We ARE a selfish bunch, aren't we?

You are a spooky girl missalicefaye. I have had this pattern for years. Orignally purchased from Jaimson & Smith, the "Lace Christening Shawl" was designed by Gema Ord and I imagine you might still be able to buy this pattern from them. It contains the "pip" stitch in the section the refer to as "Rose & Anchor". It's a lovely pattern and in my version there are no charts. Only written instructions to follow. Very very nice choice! I'm very happy you have had time to knit and I'm not at all suprised you are speeding along on the edge. I be you have it memorized by now! I will continue to cheer you on!

Congrats on finishing your first semester of grad school! I am down to the last classes of my MBA . . . two finals next Monday and Wednesday. Second last presentation due Saturday, final exame and comprehensive exam on June 9 and finishing up with a major presentation due June 30. The final paper due July 2! I cannot believe that it is ending and I am so looking forward to it being over . . . On the other hand, I look at the people that I have been spending so much time with . . . there are those I don't care to ever see again and others whom I know will be life-long friends.
As to lunchtime, I have found truly wonderful places to hide to get knitting/personal time in. The top of the stairs heading towards the roof (everyone does believe that the building stops at the fifth floor!) and I know of all the empty offices available.

I love your Palatine. I honestly don't know how you do it all- work, school & lace! Your work is breathtaking. Congrats about getting through your first semester!

In my house, we jokingly refer to Second Life as "Second Wife." My husband, who plays a lot of online games and almost always creates female characters to do so, says it took less than two minutes for someone to cruise him :-)
Your lace is gorgeous. Yep, to knit lace, you really need a door.

What are you studying? I will be getting my MLIS in August (may it please the fates) and social software in libraries sounds suspiciously like library school to me. I have a full week off from school next week and I am thrilled.
Your knitting looks pretty good too. I knit a fair amount of lace myself but I pick it all for ease. In fact, I am knitting my first lace weight lace shawl and knit some of it while waiting for my Online Business Databases class to start.

Your lace knitting is both inspirational and aspirational. How are you able to be so prolific? I want to knit everything you've made!
I've had the silk/yak yarn, you used for Palatine, for over a year. Palatine might be my next big thing.
