Rings and more rings

20 of 140 edging points completed. I'm now fairly comfortable with the pattern, but I still have to refer to the chart from time to time--mostly because of those pesky rings. Ah, well. I have 120 more opportunities to memorize it.
At approximately 20 minutes per point, I have about 40 hours left to go.... Tentatively, I predict this will be finished by late May/early June. (!)
In life news, I'm currently deep in denial about a final exam tomorrow and a final project due next week. But I do get to celebrate the end of classes at Maryland Sheep and Wool! The prospect of barns full of yarn does much to brighten the mood.

The border: a retrospective

That's right--we've achieved border completion. The urge to finish was all-consuming, so most other life activities were put on hold this weekend in favor of knitting. (Besides, when there's a nor'easter raging outside, the only sensible thing to do is sit on the couch and knit, right?)

Onward to the edging!

The Palatine saw a bit of progress as well. It's nice to know that when the body of this shawl is done, there will be only a tiny strip of edging at the top left to knit. Clever people, those Orenburg shawl knitters.
If you'd like to see how the Palatine looks when finished, take a look at this version by Ted (aka Knitterguy)--scroll down to the bottom right photo--and when you're done looking at his fabulous work, scroll back to the top of the page, so as to observe all the lovely lace by Gene Beugler and Nino Esposito.
Speaking of lovely and inspirational knitting, I've been quite remiss in not pointing out Laritza's completed Wedding Ring Shawl. She is the first knitter I've heard of to actually finish this, aside from Sharon Miller herself. I'm thinking mine won't block out quite this big, but I may be surprised....
But wait! there's more: I was terribly pleased to get a comment from m4mitchell over the weekend saying that she had completed her Magickal Earth Shawl. Quite the beauty, eh?

Closer...
Up to row 112 of 132 border rows. Which means...I should be done with the border within the next two weeks. (!)
Of course now all I want to do is work on the Wedding Ring Shawl so I can move on to the next stage (the looooong edging). Sadly, I must work for a living. And getting home from class after 9 two nights a week isn't conducive to WRS progress, either, thanks to the weary brain.

Given the intensified WRS focus, the Pine Tree Palatine will probably be relegated to sporadic lunchtime knitting in the interim--sporadic because lunchtime is my prime homework completion time as well. I haven't learned how to do all three at once yet, but I have tried....

Pre-dawn choices

True, this is not your weekly photo of the Wedding Ring shawl. You see, a plethora of projects this weekend (i.e., scraping decades-old wallpaper glue off of the walls, dilligently concentrating on schoolwork, making an ill-advised Sunday afternoon trip to the supermarket) conspired to deprive me of photo-taking opportunities. However, as I had to wake up before sunrise this morning to register for fall classes, I decided I could take advantage of the opportunity of having free time before work to briefly document one project. I thought, "Wouldn't the lovely people out there like to see something new on this Monday morning?"
Sadly, the sun did not cooperate and hid behind overcast skies, resulting in a fairly craptacular photo. Shameful. I promise to prioritze my weekend time a bit more wisely in the future.
Anyway--this is the beginning of the Pine Tree Palatine scarf. It's more of a stole, really, knit in the Orenburg style from a pattern in The Gossamer Webs Design Collection.
The yarn I'm using is a really fabulous 55% silk/45% yak blend from Skaska Designs, acquired at last fall's New York Sheep and Wool Festival. (Skaska Designs, also known as The Place Where I Spent All My Money at Rhinebeck.) On 2mm needles, it is making a nicely substantial (yet soft... and light...) fabric. The design is a pleasure as well, appealing to my current need for symmetry and rows of less than 1000 stitches.
